Tuition Fee in Harvard for Chinese Officials Not from Bread & Butter of Civilians
According to the recent "Timely Information of Youth", the tuition for each Chinese official is " RMB 200,000 yuan" said Mr. Lu Mai, Secretary-General of China Development Research Foundation who host the "advanced training course of public management", when accepting the interview of the CCTV. Many audiences express their doubts as to the matter. Will the expensive training fee get the desired results?

Many audiences express their doubts as to the matter. Will the expensive training fee get the desired results?
Mr. Lu Mai clarifies the facts by saying " the tuition of RMB 200,000 is absolutely not paid by taxpayers, but is partly under the auspices of some domestic and foreign organizations and partly from the capital income of the Foundation itself. What can be told to the public is that such an input is beyond doubt an effective one."
To sum up failures in government administration, a thorny problem
The quality of case teaching determines the success or failure of training for an experienced person. "But the former teaching of public management is only on absolute theories, which are of an academic type. However, this is a default for the present teaching for public education."
It is difficult for China to form its own cases of public management for it involves many aspects of life, said Prof. Xue Lan, vice president of School of Public Policy & Management under Tsinghua University, when accepting the interview of the reporter. The successful and unsuccessful experiences can be summed up. But in the field of the government management, it is easy to make an appraisal for the successful experience but rather difficult to make an assessment for those in failure. By way of cooperating with officials to learn the cases they have summarized, it will do us a lot of good for the teaching and the summarization of China's cases in future.
"Dealing with Crisis", an Additional Course for the Second Group of Students
"School of Public Policy & Management under Tsinghua University is an international school, and many teachers here have accepted systematic education in different countries", said Professor Xue, "However, students in Harvard University come from all over the world, and many teachers there from different nations too who are rich both in teaching and public management experience. Such conditions will be helpful for students to broaden their visions."
According to Mr. Lu Mai, "the short-term training course can only provide the students with a basic framework of knowledge. More efforts must be made to handle the cases cropping up in future, and it is unrealistic to attain all goals so easily." There will be some new changes in the courses for the students of the second group, "for example, the course for dealing with crisis was not arranged in the past but this time it is added in. There will be some alterations as to the term and location for the second group."
