A US military investigation has concluded that American soldiers acted appropriately when they fired into a Baghdad hotel in April, killing two journalists, officials said Tuesday.
Soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division fired on the Palestine Hotel believing that hostile forces were using the building to direct fire on them, local media reports quoted officials briefed on the investigation's findings as saying.
In the April 8 attack, a tank shell fired by the American soldiers hit a 15th floor balcony of the 17-story hotel, killing aUkrainian cameraman and a Spanish cameraman.
The attack on the hotel, which housed international journalistscovering the Iraqi war, has stirred protests by the international community. But top officials in the Bush administration has vehemently denied any wrongdoing by the American troops.
