CPPCC National Committee Chairman Meets Sri Lankan PM

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe Tuesday in Beijing.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe Tuesday in Beijing.

China and Sri Lanka respect and treat each other with equality and amity, Jia said, and the two countries have cooperated well inpolitical, economic and international affairs since the forging oftheir diplomatic ties.

He expressed the hope that the two countries would strive to increase bilateral exchanges and cooperation in trade and economy,culture and tourism, and that their people would forge still closer exchanges so that Sino-Sri Lankan friendship will take roots in the hearts of their people.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe noted that his visit was aimed atreinforcing and deepening his country's cooperation with China. Inrecent years, he noted, the development and changes taken place inboth countries have provided a brand-new opportunity for Sri Lankan-China cooperation.

The two sides could strengthen cooperation in the spheres of trade and economy, he said, adding that they also had more room tocooperate in culture, religion, tourism and sports.

The Sri Lankan side hoped that the wide-ranging exchanges and cooperation would help advance the all-round development of bilateral ties, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said.
