A 21-year-old high school graduate, whose surname was disclosed as Yang, was recently arrested by local police in Hanzhong City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province for allegedly threatening to cause explosions at Qinghua University, one of the country's top universities, according to local media reports.

The young man reportedly became crazed after twice failing to pass the annual national examinations for college recruitment. His girlfriend has been studying at Qinghua University for two years.

On July 17, the young man wrote four times on the Internet that he was going to carry out a suicide explosion of a dormitory compound or the library of the Beijing-based university.

On the same day, Beijing police informed Hanzhong police of the threat. On July 26, the young man was captured at his home.

According to the police, Yang graduated from high school in 2001 and he had failed the national university entrance examinations for 2001 and 2003. He only scored 280 this year but had been very nervous since he told his family that his score was 507.
