Nigerian President Meets Liberia's Main Rebel Leader

Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjomet with Liberia's main rebel leader here Sunday, said Obasanjo's spokeswoman Oluremi Oyo.

During the meeting, Sekou Damate Conneh, leader of the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD), thanked the Nigerian government and people for helping Liberia restore peace in the west African country, according to the spokeswoman.

The LURD leader promised that no leader of his group would takepart in the interim government after President Charles Taylor steps down and leaves the country under the recent decision of theEconomic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Conneh, 42, arrived in the Nigerian capital Abuja earlier Sunday and left after the talks for Ghana's capital Accra.
