Death Toll Rises To 18 In Coal Mine Accident In East China
By 5:30 p.m. Sunday, rescue workers had recovered 18 bodies in a flooded coal mine in Zaozhuang City, east China's Shandong province, but 17 miners were still trapped in the mine.

The missing miners have little hope of surviving, said the rescue team.
The mine flooded at 10:15 p.m. on July 26, trapping 37 miners working underground. Two miners were rescued soon after the accident.
So far, 17 victims' families have agreed to the compensation scheme proposed by the local authorities, which also formed a special team to help the families for several months, according togovernment officials.
An investigation team headed by Zhao Tiechui, deputy director of the State Administration on Work Safety Supervision, was set upon August 6 to identify the cause of the accident.
