Wang Yung-ching , president of a Taiwan plastics group, hasn't showed up for quite a long time. When receiving the exclusive interview of Taiwan's media recently, he points out that it is now the best time for Taiwan's companies to invest in the mainland and they should not miss it. However, the production cost in Taiwan is still too high, and all walks of life in society should make efforts to reduce the cost in order to enhance the competitiveness of Taiwan, according to Wang.

The 88-year-old president, who has gradually quitted the management of his group, expresses that he has made the decision to recede into the shade and will spend more time for keeping fit and sports. As for the successor, he hopes to find a successor in an institutional way.

Wang considers that it is unnecessary for the Taiwan authorities to worry of the investment of Taiwan's firms in the Chinese mainland, for the factories there are under the management of their headquarters in Taiwan. So the two parties across the Strait should have a closer cooperation. If Taiwan companies invest in the mainland, Taiwan will surely attract the investment from other regions. Now, the ROK companies are actively carrying out their investment distribution in Shandong Province in order to carve a bigger chunk out from the market. It is unreasonable for Taiwan's companies to stay aside.

Wang stresses that it is the best chance now for the interest rate on the loan is very low as never seen before and Taiwan's companies can take this chance to implement the investment and carry out their extension plans.

Westward Zest among Taiwan Youngsters to Work in Chinese Mainland

At present, a great zeal for working in the Chinese mainland has been roused from among Taiwan's youngsters. According to the head-hunting companies in Taiwan, for Taiwan's enterprises in the Chinese mainland to seek for factory directors will turn out the largest demand. For the talents in Taiwan this is reckoned to take place in the next two to three years.

As an experienced consultant of 21st Century Human Resource Management & Consultation Company in Taiwan, Fu Fangqing says Taiwan's enterprises have asked his company to assist them in finding out the right talents for factory directors and offered excellent conditions one after another since the end of last year.

According to Fu's analysis, the present factory directors of Taiwan's electronic factories in the Chinese mainland are mainly aged from 40 to 50, as the factory directors must have rich experience and learned well of the production situations in different assembly lines. Moreover, the companies needed senior and honest talents to help them build up a good foundation when investing in the Chinese mainland in their earlier days. So, most of Taiwan companies employed the talents of over 40 years of age in the past, who were considered to have met the requirements in experience and character.

However, with the market competition tends to be fiercer the companies keep on raising high the requirement for the factory directors in charge of the first line of production, and they are required to be between 30 and 40 years old. As only a few talents at such age group can be sought out from among those in the Chinese mainland who are competent enough for this position, Taiwan's enterprises usually offer high salaries for the capable talents from the Island.

Fu also offers a piece of advice to those who want to work in the Chinese mainland. According to him, if a Taiwan company is looking for a person in charge of a single assembly-line or a factory turning out a single product, they should try to grasp such a chance and accumulate the experience from now. They will be qualified as a factory director before forty and become a talent in great demand.
