China Red Cross Society (CRCS) Thursday donated 50,000 US dollars to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to support its flood relief efforts.

Chinese ambassador Zhang Chunxiang presented a cheque on behalf of the CRCS to PRCS Secretary General Fazil Moin here in a brief ceremony.

Zhang spoke highly of Pakistani government's efforts in the flood relief work and expressed confidence that the disaster-hit people are bound to overcome difficulties and rebuild homeland at an early date.

Moin thanked the Chinese people for their support, saying the money will be used to buy foodstuff, tents, blankets and clothing to meet the need of people in Balochistan.

Heavy rains have striken severely Sindh and Balochistan, two of the country's four provinces since late July. The Pakistani government estimated that about 200 people have died and nearly one thousand people have been injured in the rain-related incidents.

Flood has made more than one million people homeless and destroyed 140,000 mud houses and nearly 10,000 heads of cattle have perished, according to official estimates.
