Food Poisoning in University Brings 24 to Hospital in Tianjin

Twenty-four people became seriously sick and were hospitalized after dining in a university cafeteria in this northern port municipality on Tuesday.

Twenty-four people became seriously sick and were hospitalized after dining in a university cafeteria in this northern port municipality on Tuesday.

Over 60 people suffered from stomachache, diarrhea and vomitingafter eating in the cafeteria of the Tianjin Industrial University.Some of the seriously ill also experienced dehydration and low blood pressure.

Most of the victims were professional middle school teachers from across the country, who came to the university to receive training.

Zhang Hong, an official with the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Health, said that it was a food poisoning incident and professional investigators were examining the cafeteria and the remains of food that was eaten by the victims.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
