DPRK Accuses US of Staging Military Exercises
The upcoming US-South Korean joint military exercises raised the suspicion of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) over the US stand on its policy toward the DPRK, a DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman said here on Thursday.
The upcoming US-South Korean joint military exercises raised the suspicion of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) over the US stand on its policy toward the DPRK, a DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman said here on Thursday.
"Thanks to our initiative, the six-party talks on settlement ofthe nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula have been put on the schedule. However, the US launch of the joint military exercises at this point have raised our suspicion to its alleged abandonmentof anti-DPRK policy and transformation of its policy toward the DPRK," the spokesman said.
The DPRK announced Monday that the six-party talks would soon be held in Beijing with the participation of the DPRK, the United States, China, Russia, South Korea and Japan.
The United States and South Korea will stage the joint military exercises from August 18 to 29. Over 8,000 South Korean and 6,500 US soldiers will be deployed in the exercises.
The joint exercises are totally aimed at the DPRK, the spokesman said.
"The joint military exercises will intensify the tense situation of the Korean Peninsula and help realize its (US) strategic attempt in the Northeast Asia", the spokesman said.
