Closer cross-border economic relations, as intensified by the signing of a recent economic agreement between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the mainland, are set to increase technological investment opportunities, said IBM Thursday.

Christine Ng, Hong Kong-based wireless solution and businesses development executive of IBM, made the remarks during a press conference, when introducing the company's Pervasive Wireless e-business.

When asked how the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangements (CEPA) recently signed will increase business opportunities for thecompany, Ng commented, "We are seeing more business opportunities. For example, the HK-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge would be built in SouthernChina. This will bring about more IT opportunities in terms of thelogistical application of technology on both the mainland side andthe Hong Kong side."

She cited as an example the possibility of installing a global positioning system on vehicles and the bridge in order to aid drivers in getting a better picture of traffic and to opt for the most convenient routes in order to avoid traffic congestion. She said Telematics offered by the company will enable such function.
