State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met a Taiwanese press delegation here Thursday at the Great Hall of the People.

Tang reiterated China's unswerving stand on adhering to the basic principles of "peaceful reunification" and "one country, two systems" and the eight-point proposal from former Chinese President Jiang Zemin in resolving the Taiwan issue, and the four points of opinion on Taiwan "under the new situation" raised by Chinese President Hu Jintao in March.

Tang said the Taiwanese press had contributed greatly to helping compatriots across the Taiwan Strait deepen mutual understanding and to promoting the cross-strait relationship.

However, media exchanges between the two sides were uneven, as Taiwanese authorities still imposed limitations, Tang said.

He hoped the media of the two sides could learn more about the wishes of ordinary people and continue to bridge cross-Strait relations.

The 19-member delegation arrived in Beijing on Wednesday at theinvitation of the All-China Journalists Association and will visitBeijing and Shanxi Province.
