Nepal, China to Strengthen Trans-Himalayan Tourism Cooperation
Nepali Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sarbendra Nath Shukla said Wednesday that Nepal and China will strengthen their friendship, especially in the field of the trans-Himalayan tourism cooperation.

"We have a common understanding that tourism can bring benefit and wealth for the people of our two countries. Therefore, we hopeour cooperation in this regard will enter into a new stage," Shukla told a visiting Chinese delegation.
The 28-member delegation led by Lobsang Gyaltsen, vice chairman of the people's government of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China,arrived here Tuesday for a 12-day visit from Aug. 5 to 16 at the invitation of the Nepali government.
Shukla said during the meeting, "Nepal has become a doorway forthe tourist destinations in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, because there are more than 50,000 tourists entering into the region from Nepal in recent years."
The minister also made some concrete suggestions on the development of bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, including opening of routes for tourism promotion between Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
Speaking on the occasion, Gyaltsen said both sides expressed strong sense and sincerity toward bilateral tourism cooperation. He regarded the Nepali minister's suggestions as "constructive andfar-sighted."
"We hope the good thinking will turn into exercisable reality, so that we can implement several cooperation projects in the future," Gyaltsen said.
He added that China's western development strategy has provideda great opportunity for the development of tourist industry in the Tibet Autonomous Region, and also for the cooperation between China and Nepal in this field.
