Chinese Premier Meets Russian Parliament Speaker

Wen said as China and Russia are neighboring countries committed to developing economy, they both need a peaceful regional and international environment. The two countries are mutually complementary in economy, and closer cooperation will promote the economic development and prosperity of both countries.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met Tuesday with Sergei Mironov, chairman of the Federation Council of Russia.

Wen said as China and Russia are neighboring countries committed to developing economy, they both need a peaceful regional and international environment. The two countries are mutually complementary in economy, and closer cooperation will promote the economic development and prosperity of both countries, he said.

The premier said that as big countries, China and Russia both shoulder important responsibilities for safeguarding world peace and stability. Long-term and stable good-neighborly relations between the two countries are not only beneficial to both countries, but are also conducive to world peace, the promotion of multipolarization and the establishment of a just and reasonable new international political and economic order, he said.

Wen said that China is ready to work with Russia to carry out the agreements on cooperation in various fields reached by the two countries.

Mironov said that the Sino-Russian Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation has laid a solid foundation for the development of bilateral ties.

Mironov said that Russia will strengthen its strategic cooperation in various fields with China, especially in economy and trade and technology so as to promote the economic development of the two countries.

Mironov: China visit a complete success

Mironov said that his two-day China visit was a complete success. Mironov told Chinese media that he exchanged views with Chineseleaders on parliamentary exchanges and economic and trade cooperation during the visit and the two sides have reached consensus on a wide range of issues.

On Russia-China economic and trade cooperation, Mironov said the two countries' cooperation in energy has been fruitful. He suggested the two countries increase the proportion of machinery business in bilateral trade and further explore cooperation in thefields of nuclear energy, machinery and civil airplane manufacturing.

Mironov said Russia attaches great importance to regional cooperation between the two countries, especially the cooperation along the border areas. He said the Russian side has proposed holding a seminar on Russia-China border cooperation, which the Chinese side has accepted. Details of the seminar will be further discussed, he said.

Mironov and his party left Beijing Tuesday night.
