Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri paid an inspection visit to the scene of the powerful bomb explosion at Hotel JW Marriot in South Jakarta in Tuesday evening.

The president went to inspect the site accompanied by Minister of Trade and Industries Rini Soewandi and National Police Chief Gen. Da'i Bachtier, the national news agency Antara reported.

The location has been under tense security investigation soon following the blast which took place around the noon time of 12:45,killing at least ten people and injuring nearly 100 others. All reporters could not get close to the scene as they were separated 100 meters away by a police security line.

Shortly after the explosion, Vice President Hamzah Haz called upon people to stay calm. He also urged security authorities to investigate the bombing immediately in order to pacify people.

Haz termed the blast as "an organized act," and possibly targeted at the US interest.

The well-known five-star hotel is a member of the US-based Marriot Corporation Inc. which also operates the Ritz-Carlton, Marriot and the Ramada International.

The latest bombing was the worst raid in Indonesia after the October 12 bombings last year that killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists and only 21 days following the previous bomb explosion in the compound of the House of Representatives on July 14 also in Jakarta.
