Central China's Hubei Province used 909 million US dollars in overseas investment during the first half of this year, an increase of 5.6 percent year-on-year.
According to statistics released by the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation with the Hubei provincial government, the province approved 212 overseas-funded projects during the six months, involving 1.62 billion US dollars in contractual investment.
Officials with the department said the amount of overseas investment was less than the target the province set earlier this year, blaming the outbreak of SARS in the spring and early summer of this year for the failure.
Wuhan, capital city of the province, took the lead in the province's 16 cities and prefectures with actual use of 588 million US dollars, up 2.7 percent.
The capital city approved 82 projects during the six months, involving 1.34 billion US dollars in contractual investment.
