DPRK's Kim Jong Il Elected Member of Parliament
Kim Jong Il, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has been elected deputy to the 11th Supreme People's Assembly, the top legislative body in the country, the DPRK Central Election Committee said Monday.

Registered voters at Constituency 649 all went to the polls on Sunday and 100 percent of them voted for Kim, said the committee.
Elections for deputies to the 11th Supreme People's Assembly were carried out on Sunday throughout the country's 687 constituencies, each of which had a candidate for the legislature with a five-year term in office. All candidates were successfully elected.
The Supreme People's Assembly has the mandate to elect members of the National Defense Commission, the presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and the cabinet.
The 10th Supreme People's Assembly election was carried out in July 1998, followed by the election of Kim as Chairman of the National Defense Commission in September the same year.
