Uganda Supports Establishment of RDMCC for Greater Horn of Africa
Uganda has signed a resolution in support of the establishment of a Regional Disaster Management Coordination Center (RDMCC) for 11 countries in the greater horn of Africa, a press release issued here on Saturday by the Office of the prime minister said.

Ugandan First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Disaster Management Lt. Gen. Moses ALi led the Ugandan delegation that included Minister of Defense Amama Mbabazi, Minister of State for Regional Cooperation Augustine Nshimye, Army Chief of Staff Brig. Nakibus Lakara and National Focal Point for Disaster Management Martin Owor.
The other countries that signed the resolution at the end of the Golden Spear symposium held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, recentlyincluded Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, the Seychelles, Djibouti and Egypt.
The RDMCC is designed to foster disaster management cooperationin coping with increasing disasters both natural and man-made.
The Golden Spear process was initiated by recently retired commander of the United States Center Command Gen. Tommy Franks toaddress issues of terrorism, humanitarian crises, natural disasters, drugs trafficking and refugees in the greater horn of Africa.
Addressing participants at the closing ceremony, the new commander of the United States Central Command Gen. John Abizaid acknowledged the stand countries in the region have taken in the war against terrorism and pledged his continued support to the Golden Spear process.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said the consensus reached at the meeting was a major achievement towards the enhancement of national capacities as well as collaborative efforts to deal with disasters, thus protecting development gains the region has attained over the years.
