Chain explosions continued in the oilgas warehouse in Macao by the press time, where some 300 oil gas cylinders belonging to eight petroleum companies were stored.

The explosion occurred at 10:45 p.m. Monday. The fire, spreading some 20,000 square feet and causing black mushroom clouds, can be seen in distance. Fire fighting trucks in the MacaoPeninsula have rushed to the site, and senior officials with the transport secretariat, fire brigade and the public police force have taken command of extinguishing the fire.

There are two gas stations located near the site, and the nearest residential building is about some 130 meters away from the oil and gas warehouse. The fire site has been cordoned off.

A resident surnamed Rong told Xinhua that dozens of residents in the building have been temporarily evacuated to a social service center in the Iiha Verde District in the northern part of Macao.

Meanwhile, residents in 10 apartment buildings near the site are being orderly evacuated to guard against further spreading of the fire.

Fire fighters said they found it difficult to get close to the fire because of intermittent explosions.
