The Qatar-based Al Jazeera satellite TV on Friday morning broadcast an audio tape purportedly from deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

The voice on the tape blasted the US-led forces for looting Iraq's wealth, calling for unity of resistance against the US occupation.

"We feel the bitterness of what happened and insist on taking our historical responsibilities," the voice attributed to Saddam said.

Calling on all Iraqis to resist the American occupation by all means, the voice accused "all who deal with the occupation forces as agents and treacherous."

The voice also urged the Iraqis to safeguard the belongings of the state and party until the situation changes.

The tape was the third attributed to Saddam in less than two weeks.

The first tape was recorded on July 20 and aired on July 23, one day after the US-led coalition forces killed Saddam's sons Uday and Qusay in a six-hour battle in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

In that tape, Saddam said "the war (against the US-led coalition) is not over," urging Iraqi forces to continue fighting US troops and increase attacks.

The second, broadcasted on July 29, mourned Uday and Qusay, saying they were martyrs who died for Iraq and they "are the honour of this nation."

The tape called on the youth of the Arab world and Iraq to follow Uday, Qusay and Qusay's son Mustafa "in the arena of jihad (holy war)".
