Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province revealed on Friday that they had smashed a drug trafficking ring in July, arresting 14 suspects and seizing 58.912kg of heroin.

They also seized 800,000 yuan (96,400 US dollars) and three vehicles allegedly used for trafficking.

In early July, local police launched anti-drugs operations based on information that a narcotics ring had been frequenting cities like Kunming and Dali in Yunnan Province.

The traffickers were reported to be friends and relatives of the main suspect, who allegedly purchased the drugs from abroad and dispatched them to Kunming and Sichuan provinces.

Further investigations were still underway.
