Meteorologist Warns of Possible Flooding in NE China
Heavy rains will pelt northeastern China and the southern part of north China area in the next two orthree days, increasing the risk of floods, said Yao Xuexiang, deputy head of the Central Meteorological Station on Thursday.
Heavy rains will pelt northeastern China and the southern part of north China area in the next two orthree days, increasing the risk of floods, said Yao Xuexiang, deputy head of the Central Meteorological Station on Thursday.
The torrential or incessant moderate rainfall is likely to worsen the situations of two major rivers in northeast China, the Songhua and Nenjiang rivers, Yao said, adding the public should on the alert for possible flooding.
In the next three days, the east of Inner Mongolia, and the west of Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces would have heavy rains, which would then move to the east of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces.
The frequent rainfall in the latter half of July had relieved northeastern China of the dry spells that had hit the area in spring and early summer, and raised river levels, especially in the Nenjiang River.
Rainfall in the north of Heilongjiang was anywhere from 30 percent to 100 percent above average for the time of year, said a station spokesman.
Yao also warned that the cooler weather, caused by the heavy rainfall, would affect the growing of crops.
