Russia Says DPRK Supports to Hold Multilateral Talks on Nuclearissue
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) supports to hold six-sided talks, including Russia, to settle its nuclear standoff with the United States, the DPRK's ambassador to Russia Pak Ui Chun said on Thursday.
He made the marks during a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov.
"On behalf of his leadership, the ambassador said that the DPRKsupports holding six-sided talks with Russia's participation on settling the current difficult situation on the Korean Peninsula and is making active efforts to realize them," said a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Moscow expressed satisfaction over Pyongyang's constructive decision, the statement said.
Russia has repeatedly called for a political solution to the crisis since it erupted last October, and has also expressed readiness to take part in the multilateral talks on the issue.
The crisis over the DPRK's alleged nuclear program broke out last October when Washington said Pyongyang had admitted running asecret nuclear program in breach of a 1994 bilateral accord.
As a result, the United States suspended fuel deliveries to theDPRK. In return, the DPRK announced its withdrawal from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in January and later reactivated a nuclear reactor for generating electricity.
