Scientists Discuss Prevention, Control of Infectious Diseases in Shanghai

More than 40 Chinese and foreign scholars and scientists are gathering in Shanghai to discuss control methods for infectious diseases.

More than 40 Chinese and foreign scholars and scientists are gathering in Shanghai to discuss control methods for infectious diseases.

Coming from China, Germany, Britain, the United States and Spain, the participants will discuss measures to prevent and control such infectious diseases as Hepatitis B, hemorrhagic fever,malaria, AIDS and SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) during the four-day international seminar beginning July 29, which is known as Infection Biology and Its Perspectives.

They will also put forward opinions on the establishment of preventive medical research systems relating to infectious diseases.

Participants stressed the role of international cooperation in controlling infectious diseases. They cited international concerted efforts to control the SARS epidemic as a successful example.

The seminar is jointly hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Scienceand Technology Committee, the Max-Planck Society of Germany, and the Shanghai Life Sciences Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
