Beijing police have captured and detained a total of 20 suspects belonging to an organized crime gang, who are accused of four murders and numerous robberies.
The gang was alleged to have killed four people, robbed 14 drivers of their cars and broken into seven houses to loot since June last year, said Miao Lin, deputy head of the national capital's Western District police station.
Most of the drivers robbed were those taxi drivers without legal operating licenses, Miao said, who were usually afraid to report the crime to police.
Most of their stolen cars were transferred and sold to small garages in north China's neighboring Henan province, he said. The police have so far recovered six stolen cars.
All 20 suspects were jobless people without any residence certificate in Beijing.
