Fireworks Factory Blast Caused by Spontaneous Gunpowder Ignition

The explosion in a fireworks factory in north China's Hebei Province on Monday was caused by heat-induced ignition of gunpowder.

The explosion in a fireworks factory in north China's Hebei Province on Monday was caused by heat-induced ignition of gunpowder.

The powder exploded due to the hot weather in the last few days, local government officials said.

The factory exploded at 6:08 p.m. Monday, with 169 workers on site.

The death roll has risen to 29 while 91 injured are still in hospital, 12 of whom are in serious condition.
