French soccer legend Zinedine Zidane, who came in Kunming with his club Real Madrid for pre-season training, said Tuesday that he will retire after two years when his contract expires.

Zidane, 31, one of the world-class playmakers in both French national team and Real Madrid, made the remarks at a press conference in Kunming Hongta Sports Center, the traditional and the best training base in China for soccer teams.

As the words surprised all the journalists at present, even the translator Wang Qinbo thought he might misunderstand what Zidane had said.

Zidane, who has been crown world best footballer and has taken World Cup and European titles with the French national squad, sat there calmly and said there are still two years to go with Real Madrid and that in this period he will definitely do his best to help the club win more champions and glories.

"After that, I will go and lead a placid life," Zidane added.
