China's leading newspaper, the People's Daily, publishes an editorial Tuesday calling for lessons to be learned from the country's fight against SARS, so as to promote the country's reform, development and stability.

The editorial is published to mark a national work conference on SARS control jointly held by the Communist Party of China (CPC)Central Committee and the State Council in Beijing Monday.

The editorial attributes the victory over SARS to the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Hu Jintao as general secretary as well as the strenuous efforts made by the Party and the Chinese people.

This is the first year since the convening of the 16th CPC National Congress and it is therefore very important to complete all the tasks for the year, the editorial says.
