Some 400 Athletes Contend Wushu-Kongfu Festival in America

About 400 athletes from 15 countries and regions around the world will contend in a two-day International Wushu-Kongfu Festival and Championships in Annandale,Virginia.

About 400 athletes from 15 countries and regions around the world will contend in a two-day International Wushu-Kongfu Festival and Championships in Annandale,Virginia.

This competition is serving as a qualifying event for World Wushu Championships in October in Macao, China, as four male and female athletes each will be selected into the U.S. national team.

Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Yang Jiechi, participated in the opening ceremony Saturday held at the North Virginia Community University.

"I believe this is a truly world-class competition," AmbassadorYang said. "I hope our efforts will get Wushu into the 2008 Games in Beijing."
