Beijing approved local investment in 18 overseas projects during the first half of the year, a rise of 80 percent over the same period last year.
The projects cost 502 million US dollars in total, including 218 million dollars from Chinese investors, 800 percent more than last year's figure.
The projects were located in 12 countries and regions, ranging from the Republic of Korea, Singapore and Australia, to some African countries.
During the six months, the city signed 36 overseas engineering and laborer-exporting contracts at value of 320 million dollars, 130 percent of the figure in 2002.
Beijing sent 516 people to work abroad during the period, bringing the total number of local people working overseas to 2,135 by the end of June.
