Representatives of 15th Youth League Congress Arrive in Beijing
The first batch of more than 1,500 representatives attending the 15th congress of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) arrived in Beijing Sunday.
The first batch of more than 1,500 representatives attending the 15th congress of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) arrived in Beijing Sunday.
They represent 69.86 million youth league members from China's 33 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, national governmental organizations, and military sectors.
The CYLC national congress, held every five years, is scheduled to open on July 22 and will last five days.
"Many of us have come to Beijing for the first time, " said Ngagwang, head of the Tibetan representative group who arrived in Beijing this morning.
"We look forward to exchanging views with friends from inland areas and overseas."
There are 18 members in the Tibetan representative group, representing 800,000 youth league members in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
A total of 1,539 representatives will attend the congress, including 989 cadres at various levels of the CYLC and 550 model members and representatives of model units of the CYLC according to the organization committee.
Statistics show that 1,339 representatives, or 87 percent of the total, are college graduates or above. A total of 601 representatives, or 39.1 percent of the total, are female, and 240 representatives, or 15.6 percent of the total, are ethnic minorities.
The average age of the representatives is 29.7 years old, half a year younger than the previous congress.
The representatives will discuss the achievements and experiences of the CYLC in the last five years and will plan for the next five years. They will amend the Youth League Constitution and elect the new Central Committee.
The CYLC, established in 1922, is the largest youth organization in the world.
