Tropical Storm 'Koni' Arrives in South China Sea

Tropical storm "Koni," the eighth this year, is expected to hit the southern and central surfaces of the South China Sea on Friday night and into Saturday.

Tropical storm "Koni," the eighth this year, is expected to hit the southern and central surfaces of the South China Sea on Friday night and into Saturday.

By 5 p.m. Friday, the eye of the storm was located at 12.6 degrees north latitude and 118.9 degrees east longitude, with gale-force winds near the epicenter, according to the Central Meteorological Station.

It is expected to move northwestward at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour, gaining intensity as it moves along its path.

The storm will generate moderate to strong gales over the southern and central areas of the South China Sea on Friday night and Saturday.
