Man Sentenced to Death in Beijing for Counterfeiting

A 37-year-old man was sentenced todeath Friday by the First Intermediate People's Court of Beijing for counterfeiting official corporate stamps and financial documents.

A 37-year-old man was sentenced todeath Friday by the First Intermediate People's Court of Beijing for counterfeiting official corporate stamps and financial documents.

Ma Xin, was sentenced to death and deprived of political rightsfor life. His personal assets were also confiscated.

The convict counterfeited the stamps of the Capital Iron and Steel Company, checks used in bank transfers and financial documents in collusion with Zu Feng, Sun Liansheng, Zang Lei and Sun Liang, who have already been tried and sentenced to death or imprisonment. The fraudsters swindled some 170 million yuan (20.56 million US dollars) in 2001.

Ma also swindled approximately 2.9 million yuan (348,900 US dollars) from another Beijing-based company through similar tactics.
