Chinese Leads Men's Springboard Diving Semi-finalists at Swimming Worlds

Chinese diver Wang Kenan led themen's one-meter springboard event's preliminaries with the highestscore and advanced into the semi-finals with eleven others at the 10th FINA World Championships here on Thursday.

Chinese diver Wang Kenan led themen's one-meter springboard event's preliminaries with the highestscore and advanced into the semi-finals with eleven others at the 10th FINA World Championships here on Thursday.

Wang, 23, Olympic champion for 3m springboard synchronized event in Sydney, scored a total of 396.96 points in the six-dive preliminary round.

Wang's compatriot Xu Xiang, 22, finished seventh, but that was enough for him to qualify for the semi-finals, which gather the preliminary round's top 12 finishers.

Russia's Alexander Dobroskok, winner of the 3m springboard and 3m springboard synchro title with his superstar compatriot Dmitry Sautine in the championships earlier here, collected a total of 385.98 to rank second.

Dobroskok was took the Olympic bronze medal in 3m springboard synchro event in Sydney, also with Sautine.

Finland's Joona Puhakka, 21, was the third best diver in the preliminaries, with a total of 375.69.
