HK Chief Executive Accepts Resignations of Two Top Officials

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) chief executive Tung Chee Hwa on Wednesday accepted the resignations of HKSAR Finance Secretary Anthony Leung Kam-chung and Secretary for Security Regina Ip.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) chief executive Tung Chee Hwa on Wednesday accepted the resignations of HKSAR Finance Secretary Anthony Leung Kam-chung and Secretary for Security Regina Ip.

Tung said in his statement announced Wednesday that he respected their decisions and has suggested the central government dismiss them from their posts according to the Basic Law.

He had thought highly of the performance of Leung and Ip and expressed his gratitude to them in the statement.

He said Leung had contributed much to the recovery of the Hong Kong economy, especially dealing with the fiscal deficit, tightening the economic ties between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland as well as rebuilding Hong Kong after the SARS outbreak.

Tung said he was very sorry to see Ip's resignation and praised her for her ability in solving thorny problems and for her outstanding performance and enthusiasm.
