Three Killed, Eight Missing in SW Province Flood

The raging floodwaters of the Shouxi River, a tributary of the Minjiang River, claimed three lives and left eight missing at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, the local officials said Wednesday night.

The raging floodwaters of the Shouxi River, a tributary of the Minjiang River, claimed three lives and left eight missing at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, the local officials said Wednesday night.

According to officials with the government of the Tibet Autonomous Prefecture of Aba in Sichuan Province, southwest China,rainstorms pounded the upper reaches of the Minjiang Tuesday evening, generating the most severe flooding since 1964.

The flood inflicted heavy damage on communications and traffic facilities and affected more than 120 hectares of farmland.

Rescue work is still underway.
