China will be able to produce over four million automobiles this year, said a Chinese automotive industry expert.
Though there was a drop in production and marketing of automobiles in May, a rebound was expected in the latter half of the year, said Zhang Xingye, honorary chairman of the board of directors with China Automobile Engineering Society.
At a forum here to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the country's automotive industry, Zhang predicted thegrowth rate for production of cars would be bigger than for other types of automobiles, as the overwhelming majority of buyers were private individuals.
Zhang estimated the country's output of cars at between 1.7 million and 1.8 million this year and predicted more price cuts for automobiles in the latter half of the year.
