Flood crests of the Huaihe River are marching towards the lower reaches and no severe dangers have been reported on the embankments along the middle reaches.

Sources with the Office of the State Flood Control and Drought Prevention Headquarters said that a total of 214 dangerous incidents were spotted Saturday on the embankments of both mainstreams and flood diversion areas but all had been put under control effectively.

Although the water levels on the middle reaches begun to recede, new dangers might occur as the dikes had long been submerged in water.

The office has required that a thorough inspection on embankment security be conducted instantly to prevent possible backlash.

Currently, 2.58 million civilians and 20,000 soldiers and armedpolice are stationing on the dikes of the Huaihe River.

The water of its middle reaches began to swell on Saturday. After rising for eight hours, the water levels at Zhengyangguan and Lutaizi Hydrologic Stations dropped to 26.74 meters and 26.45 meters separately Sunday morning.
