Central China's Hubei Province is preparing for the largest flood crest of this year in the Yangtze River.
The Hubei Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters required flood control work be done in advance along the Yangtze River.
The headquarters predicted water levels would exceeded the warning lines in many hydrological stations along the Yangtze on Sunday night.
From July 9 to 11, torrential rain fell along the Wujiang River,a tributary of the upper Yangtze, causing the fourth highest waterlevel in history at Wulong hydrological station.
At 4:00 a.m. Saturday, the Yangtze River flowed at a speed of 45,500 cubic meters per second at the juncture of the Wujiang and Yantgze rivers.
In addition, moderate and heavy rains fell on the Three Gorges area in the upper reaches of the Yangtze, adding more water to theriver to form this year's largest flood crest.
