9 injured in explosion in Indian controlled Kashmir

At least nine persons were injured when an explosive device ripped apart a college bus in Bandipora area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir Saturday, police said.

At least nine persons were injured when an explosive device ripped apart a college bus in Bandipora area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir Saturday, police said.

The blast occurred at village Kaloosa around 3.30 p.m. when thestudents, mostly from outside the state, of a local B.ED college were returning to Bandipora from a picnic, police said.

Nine persons, including six college students and Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, his daughter and daughter-in-law, were injured in theexplosion, two of them seriously, police said, adding one of the students was discharged after first aid.

The injured were referred to Srinagar for specialized treatmentand condition of two of the students was stated to be serious, according to the Press Trust of India.

Bhat's family were traveling in the same vehicle to Bandipora when the blast took place while it was crossing a bridge, police said.

Investigations revealed that probably an improvised explosive device was planted in the rear of the bus by suspected militants.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the entire area soon after the blast and a hunt has been launched to nab the perpetrators.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
