The Uganda People's Defense Forces(UPDF) has rescued 250 people abducted by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in northern districts of Kitgum and Pader since July, a UPDF spokesman said on Saturday.
UPDF spokesman Shaban Bantariza was quoted by Radio Uganda as saying that 202 people were rescued in Kitgum during the week ending on July 8.
He said another group of 48 abducted people were rescued between July 9 and 11.
Bantariza said the government army killed 18 rebels and captured 17 others during the same period.
He recognized that the UPDF sustained two losses, saying that rebels also killed four civilians and injured three others.
The spokesman said the rebels who fleeing from their foiled mission in the eastern region, have been trying to cross Lira and Pader to rejoin their commanders around the Uganda-Sudan border.
