A patrol boat of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday violated a controversial sea border with the South Korea.

According to a news release of the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), the DPRK's patrol boat crossed the northern limit line (NLL), which lies in the Yellow Sea between South Korea and the DPRK, about 10 miles off Bangnyeong Island, around 11:39 a.m. (0239GMT).

The boat moved 0.3 miles into South Korean waters but returned to the DPRK side nine minutes later as a fleet of South Korean patrol boats approached.

The JCS also said that on July 3, another DPRK patrol boat also crossed the NLL. South Korea deems the NLL is the de-facto western sea border between the two countries on the Korean Peninsula, while Pyongyang refuses to accept the concept.

Last late June, the navies of South Korean and the DPRK had a skirmish around the waters of the NLL, which caused personnel and material loss of the two sides.
