At least 49 persons died and 23 others were injured due to landslides, floods and lightning triggered by rainstorms in various parts of Nepal in the last three weeks, according to the Nepali Home Ministry.

"At least 24 people died, 10 others were injured and seven are missing due to floods and landslides in the last 25 days in about a dozen districts in the eastern and central parts of the country," the state-run Radio Nepal Thursday quoted Gopendra Bahadur Pandey, spokesman of the Home Ministry ministry as saying.
Another 25 people died and 13 were injured after being hit by lightning in different parts of the country since the beginning ofmonsoon season three weeks ago, Pandey said.
The incessant rains have also destroyed property worth tens of thousands of US dollars and flooded thousands of acres of agricultural land, he said, adding that "a total of 1,103 households have been influenced from the disasters so far."
In the eastern district of Jhapa alone, at least 21 persons died and 13 others were injured in the landslides, floods and lightning in the last two days, he added.
During the monsoon season every year in the Himalayan kingdom, hundreds of people died and thousands of families were affected due to landslides and floods. More than 440 people died from such kind of disasters last year.
