The Chinese capital recovering from the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) disease will launch its annual international tourism festival this fall to revive its travel industry.

According to the city's tourism bureau Thursday, the Sixth Beijing International Tourism Festival is expected to take place on October 18 - 25.

The municipal tourism sector incurred huge losses as tourist arrivals plummeted amid the fear of SARS epidemic in past months.

The event will feature activities including an opening ceremonywith a parade, a colorful wedding ritual show featuring various countries and regions, on-line business talks on developing local tourism programs, a tourism-themed photo exhibition and tasty Chinese cuisine.

Folk artist troupes both from home and abroad will be invited to give shows at the opening ceremony. It is expected that art troupes from some 20 countries and regions, together with those from 25 Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, will perform during the festival.
