Asian champions China left Beijing for Greece for the Under-19 world junior basketball championship slated for July 10 to 20 in its second biggest city.

Considering their best finish of ninth place twice, the Chinesebasketball authorities hope the young cagers demonstrate their full skills, play to their best in every game and accumulate valuable international experience.

Head coach Wu Qinglong, who took the reins of the Chinese junior team in February, said that he has three to four line-ups in mind for the championship, but conceded that his disciples still have a tough path to catch up with the Europeans and the Americans.

In the 16-team championship, China is pitched in Group C with Nigeria, the United States and Slovenia. Top two finishers in each group will advance to the last eight after the round-robin preliminaries.

Inaugurated in 1979, the championship is being held every four years. China has been competing since the second edition, finishing ninth place twice but returning back 15th last time.
