Samaranch's Book on Olympics Published in China
The Chinese edition of "Olympic Memories", a monograph by Juan Antonio Samaranch, former presidentof the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was launched Tuesday in Beijing.
The Chinese edition of "Olympic Memories", a monograph by Juan Antonio Samaranch, former presidentof the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was launched Tuesday in Beijing.
Samaranch, who attended the ceremony, recounts his 21-year tenure as president of the IOC in the book.
The Chinese publisher said the book would help Chinese readers better understand the present and past of the Olympic Games, and would be of some value in Beijing's hosting of the 2008 games.
Samaranch was first elected as IOC president in 1980. He started working on the book after retiring in 2001.
He Zhenliang, honorary chairman of the Olympic Committee of China, said at the ceremony, "Samaranch, a household name in China,has lent full support to China's sporting development."
