Russia, France Enjoy Improved Relationship: Putin
The Russian-French relationship has not only become more intensive, but has also changed its qualitative structure over the past several years, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in Moscow Tuesday.

"The most important thing is that Russia and France now have more faith in each other," he was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.
Meeting here with members of the French-Russian Security Cooperation Council, Putin said that both he and French President Jacques Chirac attach great importance to this mechanism, and thatthe council is an indicator of qualitatively new relations, theInterfax news agency reported.
Putin said France's support is extremely important for Russia'spursuit of its own place in the changing world.The Russian-French naval exercise in the Norwegian Sea, whichPutin described as "an element of trust," would be one of thefirst steps in the effort to build up international security in amulti-polar world.
Russian and French navies started a five-day joint exercise in Norwegian Sea on Monday.
The Russian leader expressed his belief that the two countries share virtually identical views on a wide range of key issues, notonly regarding bilateral ties but also the international agenda.
