Palestinian PM Tenders Resignation from Fatah Central Committee

Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas has tendered resignation from the policy-making central committee of Yasser Arafat's mainstream Fatah movement, only to be rejected by the committee, Palestinian officials said Tuesday.

Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas has tendered resignation from the policy-making central committee of Yasser Arafat's mainstream Fatah movement, only to be rejected by the committee, Palestinian officials said Tuesday.

Abbas is facing internal pressure to press for the release of more Palestinian prisoners by Israel, which keeps more than 6,000 Palestinians in jail, but agrees to set free only hundreds of them,the officials disclosed.
