Over 400 school children fell illafter taking food served under a government midday meal scheme in different parts of India's south state of Karnataka on Friday, thePress Trust of India (PTI) reported.

As many as 265 cases were reported from three primary schools in Mandya district of the state, it was officially confirmed.
The PTI quoted official sources as saying that none of the reported cases was life-threatening. The state government had extended the scheme from seven districts to the entire state from last Tuesday.
The reports of food poisoning came a day after a similar case involving 234 school children at Gadag district on Thursday.
The state government had ordered an inquiry and said that it would not tolerate any lapses.
