Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has said that all efforts should be made to ensure the safety of people and reduce property losses to the minimum in the control of floods.

The premier made the call on Wednesday at a meeting on flood control on the Huaihe River, one of the most dangerous rivers in eastern China. The river valley has experienced three major downpours in less than two weeks, resulting in a water level surpassing the safety line.
